Autoclaves

Overview

The BI houses three benchtop automatic autoclaves for sterilization of solid materials and liquids. Four pre-set cycles are available, which vary according to sterilization temperature, sterilization time, pressure exhaust and drying time.

Two large Tuttnauer Model 3850E autoclaves have a large inner chamber (64 liters), can be operated with any of its two shelves (shelf sizes WxHxD: 495 mm x 25 mm x 286mm & 495 mm x 25 mm x 350 mm), and can accommodate up various tools, flasks, and media bottles (e.g. 4 x 2 liters bottles at one time).

The Tuttnauer Model 2540E autoclave has a small inner chamber (23 liters), can be operated with any of its 4 shelves (shelf size WxHxD: 168 mm x 20 mm x 414 mm), and can accommodate tools, flasks, and bottles (e.g. 4 x 250 mL bottles at one time).

Popular sterilization cycles include: [1] solid materials (121°C for 15 min), [2] wrapped solid materials (121°C for 15min, with 60 min drying) and [3] liquid materials (121°C for 30 min), in addition to [4] drying (60 min).

Cycle parameters can be modified to suite a variety of conditions; temperature can be altered up to 130°C, while sterilization time and drying time can be set up to 99 minutes.
