Culture Lab – Mammalian

Overview

A dedicated mammalian culture lab, with the following equipment

  • Biological Safety Cabinets: 2 x 4 ft Baker cabinet, A2 Type II; NSF49 standards.
  • Centrifuge: ST8R; suitable for microtubes, well-plates, and larger sample tubes (15mL & 50mL), with aerosol containment; units with “R” indicate refrigeration capabilities.
  • Cell Counter: Invitrogen Cell Countess.
  • CO2 Incubators (preset to 37°C and 5% CO2).
  • CryoPlus Liquid Nitrogen storage unit for long term storage of mammalian cells
  • Cold storage: 4°C Fridge, -20°C Freezer, -80°C Freezer
  • Microscope: Ziess PrimoVert Inverted Microscope with 4x and 10x objectives.
  • Water bath: Thermo Fisher Precision Water bath; range: Ambient+5oC to 100oC.

Uses

  • Culture of RG-1 and RG-2 mammalian pathogens
  • Suitable for CL-1 and CL-2 work
  • Sterile work environment

Requirements

  • Uses of the BSC must be within the McMaster Biosafety Program

  • Users require active McMaster Biosafety Training
  • Approval of the type of biological work is required
