Biosafety Level 1 - Biological Preparation

Overview

Energy-efficient Class II, Type A2 Biological Safety Cabinets (BSC; Baker SterilGard) provide protection to the sample, user and working environment with momentum air curtains, cable ports, and HEPA filters, even while the sash is closed, due to Baker’s ReadySAFE Technology. The slanted view screen minimizes glare, while the stainless steel interior allows for a large work area with easy cleaning. BSCs are equipped with sash height safety alarms and UV sterilization, and are NSF 49 certified annually.

  • Culture of BSL-1 and BSL-2 agents
  • Sterile work

Requirements

  • Users require a minimum of BSL2 training to enter culturing labs – See the BI Access & Training page for more information.
  • Biosafety Office approval of biological work is required
  • Biointerfaces Institute internal approval is required
