Lab Access & Training

How to Access our Lab

Before you are permitted entrance into the BI labs, you must complete our entrance training course. The BI Labs are comprised of both BSL-1 and BSL-2 labs. Depending on your requirements, extra training and training records may be required.

For laboratory access and to use BI equipment, complete the BI entrance training course and associated paperwork. Following the completion of Steps 1-3, users may be granted BI laboratory access during “Regular” working hours (weekdays 8:30am-4:30pm).

Step 1: Ensure you have the appropriate McMaster safety training.

You must:

  • Check the BI Safety Matrix and make sure you’ve completed the necessary EOHSS/Biosafety training modules
  • Create a pdf/screenshot of your Mosaic Training Summary page. Ensure the status says “Completed” for the required modules.

Step 2: Complete the online training module.

  • Ensure that your supervisor has signed the BI Training Form.
  • Drop off the form to a BI staff member or ETB 416.

After-hours Access

For after-hours access (weekdays 7am-8:30am & 4:30pm-11pm and weekends 7am-11pm), complete the BI Working Alone Form

Hand-in a completed and signed BI Working Alone Form.

You must:

  • Ensure that your supervisor has signed the form.
  • Drop off the form to a BI staff member or ETB 416.
